...was the theme of the family service on 24th May, which was
once again very lively, and well attended, with almost 20 children and
youngsters in the congregation.
The service was led by Ruth Foster, with the youth band providing music
and Leoniek leading the singing.
We started off with another icebreaker game, getting the church family
better acquainted with one another, and what we are like. We
each wrote our names on a card, and on the back a couple of things that
we like. Kirsteen has compiled a display of the photos and
some of our hobbies and likes. Come and take a look, it’s just inside
the main door. Can you guess who likes what?
Ruth asked the congregation what they thought heaven was like, and then
turned to the book of Revelation to see what it says about heaven,
getting the children and adults involved reading passages and
identifying different aspects of heaven.
There is a photo below of our conclusions – see what you think. It
sounds perfect.
Find your family member…
…was the title of the first activity at the Family Service on April
25th.
The aim of the ice-breaker was to get all the children mingled with the
adults and finding out about each other.
Once everyone was in a new family, a quick family quiz (some answers
biblical, some answers members of our church family) got everyone
moving about even more. The Sanctuary was abuzz for a good ten minutes
whilst everyone was finding answers. If you fancy a go, here are the
questions!
Can
you name Jacob's favourite son?
Can
you name 2 of King David's sons?
Who
were Cain and Abels' parents?
Find
someone with 2 brothers.
Find
someone with at least 2 sisters.
Find
someone who shares the same birthday as a sibling.
Can
you answer “What is man's chief end?”
What
is the 4th commandment?
What
did Saul change his name to?
Who
was the first Christian martyr?
What
was Ruth's husband called?
What
street in Damascus was Saul sent to to receive his sight?
Name
a set of twins from the Bible
Why
did God put a rainbow in the sky?
What
island was John exiled on?
Both
children and adults alike had a great
time, and got to know each other a bit better.
Later
X-Factor judges listened to the tales
of Joseph, read by Sunday School members and accompanied by a
powerpoint
presentation on the overhead projector, Cain and Abel, a very energetic
monologue by Anthony Lane,
and The Prodigal Son, presented by Rev Richard Morrison.
Donald
Scott played the piano, accompanied
by one of the Youth Band members, whilst the congregation thought about
the
needs of family and friends, and then placed their prayers on the
cross, placed
at the front of the Church.
The
message?
Families
change, families aren’t perfect, but God is the constant in our
families.
